ABOUT KATHRYN PARKER

Kathryn is an artist currently studying for a BA in Fine Art at Newcastle University.
Kathryn’s work predominantly involves moving image and installation. Interested in the conceptual and the physical, her films address an otherness, trying to understand an environment alien to that above the surface. They are a record of the movement of water, respecting the strength and manipulative ability of the currents to choreograph the sculptures. Although investigative and scientific, there is equally a playful and exploratory element to the work in the way that the colourful structures are altered by the environment when they are introduced to different pressures. Kathryn’s experience of open water diving greatly influences the work, she is interested in the fact you can be immersed yet separated from the vast body of water, this theme of detachment is apparent throughout her work.
